Burstow Park School

Curriculum Overview

Burstow Park School aims to offer a curriculum to each student which is inclusive, accessible and which prepares them for later life.  Whether they move towards Further Education, Employment, Apprenticeships or further Training when they leave us, our curriculum will offer them a secure platform from which they take their next steps.  Preparation for adulthood and life-long learning are woven throughout our whole curriculum offer and all students are enrolled on our fully accredited Life Skills programme.

In main school we offer dual pathways of learning – we have academic provision with GCSE, Functional Skills, Entry Level and AQA awards in a range of core subjects and a vocational Life Skills programme which is accredited through our Open Awards registration.  We also  offer the Prince’s Trust ‘Achieve’ programme across all year groups.

At our Blended Learning Centre, we offer a ‘Successful Futures’ pathway.  This is accredited through a series of Unit Awards via our ‘Open Awards’ registration.  This bespoke, unitised pathway prepares students for moving across to an academic pathway in main school. By supporting gaps in learning and pre-teaching skills that will be required in our main school site, we will develop positive behaviours for learning.  This personalised approach enables us to support each child in their preparation for adulthood and the next steps on their educational journey.

We give careful consideration to which exam boards and accreditations we work with, to give your child the very best chance of success across a breadth of subjects.  We take into consideration your child’s aspirations and ambitions for their future, to produce a curriculum that is both engaging and meaningful for your child.
